Life with Maggie opens Friday night at C/O Berlin. The exhibition is part of their annual Talents series of solo exhibitions and publications.

From the press release:

“When you embark on a trip, you’re bound to have some experiences. That can certainly be said of Maggie, a young woman who has kept a colorful photo diary of all the places she has visited—from the beach in Pensacola, Florida, to the mountains of Monticello, Utah. She poses in the usual tourist style before sunsets at the water’s edge, picturesque landscapes, and modern architecture. The only odd thing about these travel photos is Maggie herself: in them she is always hiding her true identity behind a mask. Furthermore, her clothing often corresponds subtly with her surroundings, picking up their tones and textures. Can these pictures still be called classic vacation photos? What is actually being documented here? Who is this Maggie, and what is her real destination?”

Piece of Cake, a collective or network of European photographic artists has been around since 2002 and this year they have launched a North American network as well. I am excited and honored to become a member.

From the POC website:

Created in Rouen in 2002 at the initiative of French photographer Charles Fréger, POC’s raison d’être is to enable the artists to interact as they create, produce and distribute their works. The permanent links for this exchange network, in the form of e-mail and other multimedia tools, and an efficient website, form the vectors for POC’s activities.

All its networking activity culminates in regular meetings (workshops), with or without exhibitions. There, members talk about the path the association is taking, their individual and collective future. They can also discuss the practical problems that all artists face during their careers. Discussions regarding the production of photographic works, as well as video and multimedia and, more generally, questions inherent to any artistic production from conception to the finished product, are the focus of lively exchanges between these artists.
