The exhibition presents the artists from the program of young “Talents” run by C/O Berlin in 2009.

Since 2006, C/O Berlin has supported the work of future photographers and the texts of art critics-to-be who are on the threshold between education and career. The Talents exhibition series aims to combine the promotion program for photography and art criticism: Each solo exhibition is accompanied by a publication in which images and text engage in a dialogue. After the exhibition at C/O Berlin the art works of the members of Talents were shown in various premises of the Goethe Institut worldwide. Finally the exhibition can be seen at the Neue Börse.

Landscape and Solitude, an exhibition curated by Mako Wakasa opens tonight at Kumukumu Gallery in New York.

The exhibition features paintings and photographs by Dan Asher, Amy Bennett, Toru Hayashi, Benjamin King, Tom McGrath, Yusuke Nishimura and Ofer Wolberger.

From the press release:

Landscape painting is one of the oldest genres in both Western and Eastern art. In preparation for this exhibition, Mako Wakasa explored the theme of solitude in pictured landscapes through a detailed examination of works by masters such as Poussin, Constable, Friedrich and Homer. She found that solitude can exist in both grand and ordinary landscapes: some landscapes feature solitary individuals and others, devoid of people, instill a feeling of physical isolation in the viewer. In this exhibition, Wakasa explores the legacy of landscape painting and solitude in the work of several contemporary New York artists.
